Ty Steorts Get to Know Q & A - Your nickname, if any, and how did it come about? T Stew is my nickname my friends call me. It’s cool and catchy! - How did you get your start in track and field and/or cross country? My mom ran track and cross country at WVU and she was an inspiration for me to start! - Your parents' athletic background. My mom ran in college at WVU and my dad played baseball at WVT (West Virginia Tech) - Any siblings? Please include names and genders and any accomplishments in or out of sport. I have a brother, Chase. He just got his pilot's license! - Outside interests- your hobbies, talents(musical, chess, anything), volunteering- what do you do in your free time? I really big into mountain biking, pickleball and Golf! Pickleball 3.5 rating - Golf (I can shoot an 89) - Pre- and post- race rituals. Any superstitions? Pre race I always try to do some fancy or more in depth stretches but I don’t really have any post races ones! - Movie watcher and/or book reader? What is/are your favorite book and/or movie and why? I love watching movies! My favorite one is Anchorman and I think it’s hilarious. - How do you deal with setbacks and triumphs? I had food poisoning last track season and lost 10 lbs. This was big for me because I spent a lot of indoor season lifting and trying to gain weight. I told myself that it’s not the end of the world and this setback isn’t going to stop me. - Pet owner? If so, what is your pet's name and type/breed? I have a dog and a cat! My dog is a golden doodle, his name is Trail, and my cats name is Bimini - Where do you see yourself in five years? In five years I see myself majoring in architecture from University Of Tennessee and also being an All American with a Team XC national title to my name! - What words would you have for your sixth grade self? I would tell myself, “ Look at me now!” and say “ This is what happens when trusted the process.” - Who is your favorite track and field athlete and why? How about other sports-who is your favorite athlete and why? Craig Engles is my favorite track athlete. I think he’s the exact athlete that I picture when I think of an American Runner. - Favorite hype song, if any, before your competition My favorite hype song is Get Busy by yeat. - Many athletes are quoted as saying " trust the process". What does that mean to you? This really means a lot to me. This is a phrase I basically live by while being a runner. Running is a spot that you can’t be good at overnight or even over the course of a single year. It takes time just like all good things. - How do you balance social media with your performance? Does social media impact you positively or negatively? I like using social media and I think it’s a great tool to have nowadays. It’s a great way to tell how my competitors are doing. I think it’s a positive thing. - Favorite and not favorite high school subject and why? My favorite high school subject is Health. I think it’s super interesting learning about the body and also I've learned a lot about nutrition. My least favorite subject is chemistry because it’s hard. - Favorite musical artist and why? What is your favorite song by that artist? My favorite music artist is Yeat because he gets me pumped up when i want to get hype pre race. My favorite song by him is Get Busy. - Favorite pre- and post- meal? My favorite pre race meal is Pancakes and for post race I like eating anything that looks appetizing! - Dire question warning :) If you were unable to continue to compete in track and field, what would you do? If I sadly would be unable to run and compete in track I would definitely spend a lot more time riding my biking and also I would pick up weight lifting to gain a good physique! - What do you see your legacy being-in and outside the track world? I hopefully see myself becoming an athlete that kids all around the world can look up to. I want kids to see me and think that they too can achieve their goals! - What is your vice? What do you binge on that you can't seem to control? My vice is probably mountain biking just because it can be a dangerous sport. It’s just so much fun to do! - If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why? I honestly would want to meet Craig Engles! He just seems like a fun and hilarious character to be around! More videos |
