Evan Noonan Get to Know Q & A - How did you get your start in track and field and/or cross country? I started running cross country because of my father who ran in the 80s. I had been playing soccer for around 7-8 years, and I wanted to find a new sport to start my freshmen year. My dad had suggested that I run cross country, and after joining the team in the summer I have never looked back. - Your parents' athletic background. Did they play any sports-where(HS, College, Pro), what position, when, any awards? Please include names. My Father Shawn Noonan ran cross country and track in high school. After his success in the sport, he walked on to the University of California, Los Angeles to run cross country and track. My mother Helena Noonan grew up in Brazil, playing volleyball for her local high school. She then went on to play volleyball in college. - Any siblings? Please include names and genders and any accomplishments in or out of sport. I have an older brother named Ian Noonan who used to play water polo for Dana Hills High School. Ian is going to Orange Coast college next year. - Outside interests- your hobbies, talents(musical, chess, anything), volunteering- what do you do in your free time? Outside of running, I love photography and videography. I have a Nikon D610 camera that I like to use to take photos of still life, and I also use a DJI Osmo pocket 3 video camera to help shoot vlogs and other video content. My other notable hobby is centered around classic cars. I recently just got a 1993 Mazda Miata that I love. It is one of my favorite cars of all time, and I've had so much fun owning it so far. - At school, do you do any extracurricular activities? i.e. student government, clubs or other sports. For my extracurricular activities, I mainly assist in volunteering. I help out for our local cross country and track meets, and I also volunteer in recruiting younger kids to try out for our program, while also helping to grow the sport. - Pre- and post- race rituals. Any superstitions? For pre race rituals, I make sure to listen to a voice message from my sports psychologist. It helps to relax my mind and focus on the race itself. - Movie watcher and/or book reader? What is/are your favorite book and/or movie and why? I don't watch many movies or read many books, but I do like to watch tv shows. My favorite tv show ever is Breaking Bad because it is one of the best plot-driven tv shows I've ever watched. It was such a creative show, not knowing what was going to come next. - How do you deal with setbacks and triumphs? All setbacks for me are just big learning experiences. If I got really upset at myself for races, I would be able to improve in others and get better. - Pet owner? If so, what is your pet's name and type/breed? I have two dogs, one named Cupcake, and the others name is Sparky. Although I am not sure of the breed, they were rescue dogs. - Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself in 5 years running some of my last races in college. I want to enjoy my time there while also doing the best I can for my school. - What words would you have for your sixth grade self? The most important words I would have for my 6th grade self is to enjoy your time while you are really young. I know I'm not old yet, but those times when everything is carefree and some of the best times in a person's life. - Who is your favorite track and field athlete and why? How about other sports-who is your favorite athlete and why? My favorite track athlete is probably Charles Hicks because of his passion for the sport and his genuine humbleness. - Favorite hype song, if any, before your competition My favorite hype song right now is "Can't stand losing you" by The Police. - Many athletes are quoted as saying " trust the process". What does that mean to you? I 100% live by the words "trust the process". Nothing in this sport comes easy, and It definitely will not without lots of time. If Rome wasn't built in a day, why should you expect yourself to do the same. - How do you balance social media with your performance? Does social media impact you positively or negatively? I balance social media and performance pretty well. When running, I seem to notice that if I do well, my social profile will grow. I only let social media positively affect me. I don't care about what people say online, and it doesn't really bother me. - Favorite and not favorite high school subject and why? My favorite subject in school is probably history, and my least favorite subject in school is probably math. - Favorite musical artist and why? What is your favorite song by that artist? My favorite artist currently is probably The Police. I love almost all of their albums. My favorite song by them is either driven to tears, can't stand losing you, or man in a suitcase. - Favorite pre- and post- meal? My favorite pre-race meal is a two-taco combo with rice and beans. My favorite post-race meal is anything junky. - Dire question warning :) If you were unable to continue to compete in track and field, what would you do? I would probably try out for my school's soccer team and do my bets to compete there. - What do you see your legacy being-in and outside the track world? Inside and outside the track world I just want to be seen as a good human being, so I do my best to display a positive attitude when talking to others and in interviews. - What is your vice? What do you binge on that you can't seem to control? I tend to eat a lot of junk food (not sugar) when I shouldn't. It seems to be my kryptonite if you will. - If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why? If I could meet anyone dead or alive, I would meet Sting, and talk to him about music and his career. More videos |
