Jane Hedengren Get to Know Q & A - How did you get your start in track and field and/or cross country? I was exposed to the sport through my family. But ultimately what got me out to practice in elementary school was my friends. Here’s my start in the sport and a photo with my brother from one of the many fun runs I did growing up
- Your parents' athletic background. Did they play any sports-where(HS, College, Pro), what position, when, any awards? Please include names. My mom, Sarah Hedengren, ran in high school. My dad, John Hedengren also ran in high school and then ran for BYU in college. - Any siblings? Please include names and genders and any accomplishments in or out of sport. Three brothers, one sister. Eric, Isaac are running for BYU, Peter and Susan. - Outside interests- your hobbies, talents(musical, chess, anything), volunteering- what do you do in your free time? I like film photography and photography in general! I like hiking, swimming, picnics and spending time outdoors! - At school, do you do any extracurricular activities? i.e. student government, clubs or other sports. No I do not. - Pre- and post- race rituals. Any superstitions? Nothing crazy. I just try to eat something I’ve tried before and go out and do what I love, competing! - Movie watcher and/or book reader? What is/are your favorite book and/or movie and why? My teammates and I love having a fun movie night. I don’t have a favorite movie and don’t watch them very often but I do love watching ones I grew up on! - How do you deal with setbacks and triumphs? Trying to keep a level head throughout and realizing there will be both good days and bad days which helps me to embrace the time or challenges I am in. - Pet owner? If so, what is your pet's name and type/breed? Nope - Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself running in college. Hopefully loving life, working hard and spending time with those that I love. - What words would you have for your sixth grade self? To stay patient and enjoy where I’m at! - Who is your favorite track and field athlete and why? How about other sports-who is your favorite athlete and why? I don’t think I have a favorite but I do love watching the women’s 1500 and 5k. - Favorite hype song, if any, before your competition I don’t have one! I also don’t usually listen to music before competitions or workouts. - Many athletes are quoted as saying " trust the process". What does that mean to you? You can’t be great overnight, the work, discipline and effort stacks over time. - How do you balance social media with your performance? Does social media impact you positively or negatively? I don’t go on social media too often. I’m not the biggest fan and I think it impacts me negatively at times! - Favorite and not favorite high school subject and why? Favorite subject is learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Least favorite are the classes that I feel like I’m not learning and are a waste of time. - Favorite musical artist and why? What is your favorite song by that artist? I like Briston Maroney because his music is pretty and there isn’t really a song I don’t like from him. - Favorite pre- and post- meal? I’m not picky and switch it up every time. Just need to have tried to before. - Dire question warning :) If you were unable to continue to compete in track and field, what would you do? I would do a different sport and probably spend more time studying. - What do you see your legacy being-in and outside the track world? I hope to influence others positively on why it’s important to take care of yourself and your body with movement and nutrition. - What is your vice? What do you binge on that you can't seem to control? I sometimes procrastinate cross training, especially swimming. - If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why? Martin Luther King Jr. More videos |
