Sprinters Set to Shine at Nike Elite Camp – 2017

Names released for 8th Nike Elite Camp

The 8th annual Nike Elite Camp takes place this week, as the nation’s top high school sprint talent come to Oregon to mingle with many of Nike’s top track and field athletes, while learning how to take their talent to the next level with some of the world’s best coaches.

Eight boys and eight girls come together, learning what it takes to thrive at the highest levels of the sport, testing their talent over 200 meters at the Prefontaine Classic, while building life-long friendships.  

Here’s a quick look at this year’s sprint campers:

Kalon Barnes – Silsbee (TX)

The reigning Texas 4A state champion in the 100m and 200m enters with a speedy 100m best of 10.22, which currently ranks him US#4.

Tyrese Cooper - Miami Norland (FL)

Only a sophomore, Cooper ranks US#1 in both the 200m and 400m, owning personal bests of 20.55 and 45.45, which ranks the 17-year old as fourth best in the world for under-20 performers. He recently won the Florida 3A state titles for the 200m and 400m.

Elija Godwin – Newton County (GA)

Godwin ranks US top ten in both the 200m and 400m. The junior ranks US#5 over 200m with his 20.78 best, while ranking US#9 with a 46.34. As a sophomore, he ran 46.25 for 400m, while finishing second in the Prefontaine Classic high school one-lap race in 2016. He won this year’s Georgia 7A 200m and 400m titles.

Tyler Harrell – Miami Christopher Columbus (FL)

Harrell, a junior, ranks just outside the US top ten in both the 100m and 200m, with personal bests of 10.37 and 21.05. He placed third in the Florida 4A state meet this season, while guiding his team to state relay titles in the 4x100m and 4x400m.

Christopher Henderson – Miami Christopher Columbus (FL)

A teammate of Harrell’s, Henderson is a four-star cornerback on the football field, while owning personal bests of 10.40 for 100m and 20.92 for 200m. In addition, he helped his team to state titles in the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. He has committed to play football at the University of Florida next fall.

Hakim Sani Brown – Japan

Ranked as the top young sprinter in the world, Sani Brown is the 2015 IAAF World Youth champion in the 100m and 200m, owning personal bests of 10.18 for 100m and 20.34 for 200m. He’s run a best of 20.41 for 200m this season and is a University of Florida commit.

Shaun Shivers - Chaminade-Madonna College Prep (FL)

Shivers currently ranks US#10 over 200m with a personal best of 20.91. He ran a quick 10.47 for 100 meters as a sophomore in 2016, while placing second in the 100m and 200m at the Florida 2A state meet.

Jamal Walton – Miramar (FL)

Ranked at US#2 in both the 200m and 400m, Walton comes to Oregon riding a wave of momentum on the season. The junior was the Florida 4A state champion over both the 200m and 400m and owns personal bests of 20.57 and 45.70.

Karimah Davis – Palm Beach Central (FL)

A Florida State University commit, Davis owns the fifth fastest time in the country over 200 meters this year with a personal best of 23.28. After finishing second at the Florida 4A state meet, she also ranks fourth in the 400m nationally with a 52.98 best. 

Tamari Davis – Abraham Lincoln (FL)

Only an eighth grader, Davis comes to Oregon with a 100m personal best of 11.81 and ranks as one of the top age group sprinters in the country.

Rosaline Effiong – DeSoto (TX)

The Texas sophomore ranks US#7 in the 200m this season with a best of 23.37. Her runner-up effort at the Texas 6A State Championships in the 200m give her some great end-of-season momentum.

Daija Lampkin – Middletown (DE)

After winning the Deleware 1A state title in the 200 meters by nearly two seconds, as well as helping her school’s 4x200m relay team take home gold, the University of Alabama commit ranks just outside the US top ten in the 200m with a PR of 23.63, while owning a 400m best of 53.93.

Symone Mason – Miami Southridge (FL)

As the top-ranked U-20 100m runner in the world, Mason owns a 100m best of 11.24, while ranking US#1. Not merely a 100m specialist, Mason ranks US#2 in both the 200m and 400m with personal bests of 22.89 and 52.42. She’s committed to run for the University of Miami next year.

Arria Minor – Denver East (CO)

Minor, only a sophomore, easily won the 100m, 200m and 400m at the Colorado 5A State Championships. Her 200m and 400m bests of 23.42 and 52.50 are from her freshman year, but her 100m best is from this season at 11.53 seconds.

Sha’Carri Richardson – Dallas Carter (TX)

Ranked US#2 for 100m with a personal best of 11.28 and US#3 for 200m with a best of 23.18, Richardson is as talented as any at the Nike Elite Camp. She is the reigning Texas 4A state champion in both the 100m and 200m and is a junior.

Twanisha Terry – Miami Northwestern (FL)

Terry, a University of Southern California commit, won the Florida 3A state titles in the 100m and 200m. She currently ranks US#6 in the 100m with a best of 11.39, while ranking US#4 for 200m in 23.21.
